I was just telling a buddy of mine on Monday afternoon that when the season is over ole Klay Thompson needs to go get his bread. I know that everybody and their baby’s momma, including Klay himself, has said that he wants to remain in Golden State beyond this season.
Well playas…when you’re setting NBA 3-point records knocking down 14 on Monday night against the Bulls going 14 for 24 from three and poppin’ off 52 points in 27 minutes it’s time to get max money like everybody else.
Yeah, I hear the arguments that he’s winning in Golden State and that they could literally win until they suddenly appear on Unsung. However, it’s only so much bread on the table in Golden State. Steph, including this season, still has $166 million owed to him over the next 4 seasons. He’s making $37M this year and it goes up to $40M next year, $43 the following year and $45.7M the next.
Then KD’s getting $30M this year and $31M next year. Klay is third in line making relatively speaking, a mere $18 million this season and he’s a free agent after this campaign is over in June. More than likely, unless they have a rash of injuries, they’ll win another NBA title this year. That would be 4 championships in 5 years. Winning 5, 6, 7 titles won’t change his legacy in the game. He’s never going down as one of the greatest to ever play so he needs to start thinking about getting his bread. No matter how many they win it’s still always going to be Steph and or KD’s team not Klay’s.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! It would be great to win titles and get MAX money too but he’s not getting that $200+ million from Golden State because it’s only so much bread on the table and if KD sticks around they aren’t giving it to Klay.
So I say, in my in my “Hustle and Flow” DJay voice, “Get cha money mane!!” You can’t eat championships! Klay would have 4 rings to put in the trophy case and will go down as one of the prolific shooters on a dynasty called the Golden State Warriors but now it’s time to pull an Unsung on a boy. It’s time to become Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Diana Roos or Beyonce’. Yeah I know the groups where better with them but they had to go get their bread and you can’t blame them for getting it.
Klay isn’t Steph or KD but he’s worth a MAX contract and it makes absolutely no since for him to remain in their shadows and not get Max bread if he’s worth somebody paying him MAX money. A performance like knocking down 14 3-pointers and hitting a boy in the head for 52 points in 27 minutes is Max contract worthy and don’t for one minute think that his agent isn’t telling him foolishness I just told you. Going to work everyday is about eating, period, point blank and now it’s time for Klay to get full. Stop me when I start lyin’!
