CARMEL — The No.3 Carmel Greyhounds pulled up in a ’78 El Camino with the roof blown out looking for a problem.  Ben Davis showed up in the ’82 Sedan DeVille sittin’ on them thangs. Everybody wanted to see what the bigs from each team was going to do. Carmel’s John Michael Mulloy and Ben Davis’ Dawand Jones is what boyz wanted to see and Karsten Windlan stole the show as he led the Greyhounds past the Giants with 18 points in a 49-39 final from Carmel.

The Greyhounds’ Andrew Owens jumped out of the ride with a three pointer to start the party. It was like Chris Brown up in that piece “On and Poppin'” as Carmel went on an 8-0 run to start the game. Ben Davis looked shook out of the gate. Don Carlisle (BD’s head coach) called a time out to settle them down. Dawand Jones came off of the bench to give BD their first two buckets to pull within 5. At the end of the first quarter Carmel was up 9-5.

The Giants looked sluggish and couldn’t really find a rhythm initially. However, they finally settled down and got right back into it pulling within 3 with 3:39 left in the half down 14-11. My man Karsten Windlan was doing what he always does. He was outplaying EVERYBODY on the floor on both ends.

The Greyhounds went on a 6-3 run to end the half up 20-14. Ben Davis was able to hang around but never looked comfortable during the first half.

The Giants came out of the break like Big Momma pulled her wig off and went off in the locker room at halftime. They went on a 5-2 run to start the third quarter. However, Carmel didn’t panic and continued to played their game as Luke Heady knocked down a big three to put them up 25-20. Once again, Karsten Windlan kept going to the rack and getting to the foul line because he was the most aggressive kid on the floor.

Before I could bite into my hot dog good the Greyhounds were up 31-22 with 1:15 left in the third quarter. At the end of three Carmel was up 31-24. They never trailed in this ball game keeping Ben Davis at Heisman Trophy stiff arm distance. It was put up or shut up time playas!!

The Greyhounds settled down and went on a 7-2 run to start the final quarter. With 3:49 left they had stretched the lead 38-28 taking advantage of turnovers and the lack of discipline of the Giants down the stretch on both ends of the floor.

Don’t get it twisted, the officiating was in my Charles Barkley voice, “TERRIBLE” all night long on both sides of the ball but Carmel was able to outwork Ben Davis from start to finish led by the lil’ homie Karsten Windlan.
