GREENWOOD — Now that we’ve popped the top on the 2019 high school football season the adrenaline is flowing and it’s Chris Brown up in this piece. For y’all that’s trying to figure out what I just said, it’s “On and Poppin’!” Week 1 I was fortunate enough to kick the season off at Warren Central as the Warriors hosted Center Grove. It was an outstanding ball game with DubC getting out of the joint with a 21-14 victory that literally came down to the last seconds.

Center Grove was being led down the field by their sophomore quarterback, Tayven Jackson, as time time expired on them at the Warren 9 yard line. The Trojans lost the ball game but they’ve got a quarterback for the future. Even though Jackson couldn’t walk out of the place with a win I was impressed with his effort and poise.

He didn’t put up crazy numbers but he showed a ton of heart, command of the offense and charisma starting in his first varsity game on the biggest stage. There was a lot of pressure on him to perform because they were on the road against the defending Class 6A state champs and they were without the War Horse, Carson Steele.

This kid had the presence of a senior when he took the field. He was calm, cool and under control. All I’m saying is that the 6’5″ quarterback has a bright future playing this game. If he looked that good Game 1 on the road against one of the best programs in the country Week 1. He’s going to be making crazy noise by Week 4. In my Terrell Owens voice, “Get Ya Popcorn Ready” because Tayven Jackson will be special. Oh and he’s on my Drip Squad too. Stop me when I start lyin’!
