INDIANAPOLIS — As everybody and their Uncle LeRoy and cousin Man-Man settled in for the final regular season games across the state of Indiana. The Ben Davis Giants ran over to Arsenal Tech for the last go around before the sectionals tip off next week. By the time the smoke cleared BD had beaten the brakes, doors, windows and transmission off the Titans 72-51.
In the process, Ben Davis’ Dawand Jones lit boyz up with 40 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks!!! Ole boy went NUTS!!! Tech simply had no answer for him. It was whatever he wanted to do out there bruh.
The crazy thing is, Tech jumped out of the ride going toe to toe with the Giants as they ended the first quarter in a dog fight only down 17-15. Ben Davis seemed to be taking them way too literally giving up too many wide open jumpers.
However, Don Carlisle’s squad started to settle down in the second quarter as the game plan became evident. Get the ball to the biggest human being in the building and let him have his way. The 6’9″ 360 plus pound Ohio State signee (football), Dawand Jones, was cooking with no Crisco.
He started moving boyz around like dominoes getting to the rack, muscling any and everybody attempting to guard him. The Giants got to the break up 32-24.
Ben Davis came out of halftime and went on a 9-2 run and Tech never recovered. It was Barbecue Chicken the entire second half with Dawand putting on a clinic in the paint. There wasn’t another Ben Davis player in double figure because there was no need for anybody else to get hot. Jones was hot enough for the entire squad. He did everything but drive the darn bus across town and turn on the lights in the gym.
That was a great confidence builder for the Giants as they gear up for sectional play next week. It should be fun to watch. In my Bart Scott voice, “Can’t Wait.” Stop me when I start lyin’!
