On Wednesday more than 1,000 protesters showed up at the NFL’s corporate office in Midtown Manhattan to let boyz know that they weren’t happy about Colin Kaepernick not bein’ on an NFL roster. That’s a lot more than the 70 protesters that showed up in May. They called for an all out boycott of the game until the dun was signed to an NFL roster. They chanted “Boycott! Boycott!” Women’s March organizer Tamika Mallory kept it real when she said, “I don’t care how long you’ve been watching football, if they don’t stand up for your children, turn the damn TV off.”
Then Pastor Jamal Bryant put it where the goats could get it when he spit, “How in the world can we call ourselves the land of the free, the home of the brave, and you get vilified and criminalized just for speaking your mind? The NFL has proven with their treatment of Colin Kaepernick that they do not mind if black players get a concussion, they just got a problem if black players get a conscience.” Ole boy dropped the mic on that one bruh! Turn the lights off and let’s get outta here.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Like I told you boyz a few days ago in the crazy Hot Joint entitled “Off To The Races” that the events of Charlottesville has become oxygen to Kaepernick’s movement. When White Supremacists get bold enough to take their sheets off and take to the streets not only beatin’ up black folks but screamin’ their hate for Jews, gays and lesbians and then killin’ a white woman this foolishness has finally reached it’s boilin’ point.
With everyday that passes you’re goin’ to see more and more people of all colors and ethnicities demandin’ change in America. This is not about football playa! It’s bigger than the game! For a long time it’s been a black problem that most Americans could care less about. But when the hate shows up on national television directed at more than just black folks it starts to hit home for some people. Duns become more empathic when they start directed the hate at folks that they love and have relationships with.
What Colin Kaepernick was doin’ by kneelin’ was standin’ up for racial and social injustice for everybody not direspectin’ the flag or the military bruh. Both the flag and the military are representative of the freedoms that this country was supposed to be founded upon. The First Amendment of the United States Constitution gives every American the right to peaceably protest. Well playas…isn’t that what he was doin’?
Now all of a sudden boyz are takin’ down confederate statues all over the country because it looks like the right thing to do. However, we still haven’t addressed the real problem in America that has been festerin’ for far too long and that’s racism.
It’s cool that we’re gettin’ rid of Confederate statues but if we don’t deal with the real issue then there will be statues built to replace the originals that represent the same thing in 20 years. They’ll just call them something else.
Now that boyz are becomin’ less afraid to stand up and more empowered to support their teammates. It should be interestin’ to see what cats do on the openin’ weekend of the NFL. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the vast majority of players both black and white make a statement on the racial and social injustice in America Week 1.
And for the fans that tell boyz to just “shut up and play” you’re only tellin’ the world how insensitive you are to other folk’s problems and that you care nothin’ about the players or their families that are playin’ these games. They are nothin’ more than gladiators to you. Stop me when I start lyin’!
