Purdue Boilermaker basketball fans are down in the dumps this mornin’ after a tough loss at the crib on Wednesday night against Ohio State 64-63. The loss ended their 19-winnin’ streak that began back on November 23 of last year. It was the first home loss in 22-games and the first conference loss in 15.
Well playas…in my opinion, it was a good thing they finally loss one. The Boilermakers (23-3, 12-1 Big Ten), whether boyz wanted to admit it or not, were under a lot of pressure headed down the stretch of this season, into the Big Ten and eventually into the NCAA Tournament. The more they won the more intense the pressure was gettin’. They needed to be able to hit the reset buttom before headin’ into the tournaments.
Now don’t get it twisted, nobody’s tryin’ to lose and nobody wants to lose but it’s not a bad thing that it happened.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! This isn’t Duke, North Carlolina or Kentucky somewhere bruh. This is Purdue!! Those other programs are accustomed to bein’ in this position with 5-star recruits and McDonald’s All-Amercan littered throughout the roster that can handle the attention that Purdue was gettin’.
Those kids have had cameras followin’ them since they were 14 years old. They’ve ALWAYS been on the big stage. No disrespect to the kids at Purdue but they don’t have cats that were gettin’ national attention like that comin’ out of high school. They’ve got really good players but they weren’t the top players that were household names in high school.
You didn’t even have to follow high school basketball to know who duns like Marvin Bagley Jr. was. So therefore, a kid like that thrives under the spotlight. As good as Isaac Haas, Vincent Edwards and their teammates are they aren’t players that are accustomed to that type of attention or pressure.
So the Boilermakers losin’ to Ohio State wasn’t a bad thing at all. Now they are reminded that they can lose, that they are human again and now they can focus on makin’ a deep run into the NCAA Tournament.
Think about it bruh, if not the players bein’ able to handle the success, the students at Purdue sure couldn’t handle it. This isn’t the NBA where the players live in gated communities and have security keepin’ the fans and groupies away from them. This is college. Therefore, the players walk right out of the locker room and right into the abyss of the campus.
All of the young players live on campus in the dorm right next door to the guy that’s knockin’ on their doors all night buyin’ them pizza and foolishness. The cats livin’ off campus are still livin’ around other students and you already know how buck wild it gets off of the yard. They’re walkin’ to class with the fans and actually sittin’ in class with them wantin’ selfies and autographs etc. After a while it gets to be too much.
We’re talkin’ about 18-22 years olds gettin’ gassed up daily about how good they are from classmates and alumni that aren’t accustomed to this type of success. This is Purdue bruh! Not Duke!!! So nobody around West Lafayette has seen this type of success for decades.
Therefore, at some point the bubble had to pop and you would rather it pop on Wednesday night against Ohio State instead of it explodin’ on NATIONAL TELEVISION in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Stop me when I start lyin’!
