As we roll into the final two weeks of the regular season boyz are now startin’ to jockey themselves mentally into a position to compete for a state championship. Just in case you’ve been livin’ under a rock, EVERYBODY, regardless of record goes to the playoffs and it’s winner takes all. So it doesn’t matter that a boy loses ball games in the regular season or who a boy loses to. None of that matters come playoff time. It’s all up for grabs.
There’s one team that boyz better not sleep on goin’ into this foolishness and that’s the Pike Red Devils. Now I know that everybody and they baby’s momma’s momma, Ms. Jackson, beat them in 2016 because they went 0-10 or like the lil’ homies like to say, “they went O’fer.”
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! They aren’t last year’s Pike bruh! They’re 3-4 right now with a HUGE blowout win over then No.2 Lawrence Central 46-28 and a come from behind win on the road at then No.4 Center Grove 28-20 last week. They blew the doors off of Fishers in Week 2 43-0. They’ve been the only team this season to score 30 plus points on No.1 Ben Davis. They put up 34 points in a 69-34 pastin’ at BD. However, they scored points that NOBODY’S been able to score on the Giants. Call it a moral victory if you want to bruh but I call it buildin’ confidence.
They’ve got crazy weapons on offense. First of all, they’ve got two quarterbacks that can go. Jordan Garrett is the starter but the sophomore Jasen Graves picks up substantial reps. They’re throwin’ to Daryl Black Jr. that will fight yo momma for the football. Then there’s Cam Williams, Jalen Crenshaw, Jalen Mack and Keith Allender catchin’ the rock and scorin’ for these boyz. The running backs are NUTS with Reggie Lipscomb who has been puttin’ in work all season, along with Richard Huston.
EJ Williams leads the monsters on defense and the confidence on that side of the ball is buildin’ every week.
Comin’ down the stretch of the regular season they’ve got North Central this week and Lawrence North next week which are both winnable games. They could quite easily be 5-4 goin’ into the playoffs on a three game winnin’ streak. That’s crazy confidence to be ridin’ with.
Remember what I said about the playoffs givin’ everybody new life. Pike’s got the good fortune of playin’ in Sectional 5 that includes Fishers, whom they’ve blasted already, verses Hamilton Southeastern. They drew North Central.
So if I had to pick a favorite to win that Sectional to move on to the Regional it would be Pike. Why? Because they can score crazy points and they’re confidence is on 10 right now. It should be fun to watch as they creep down the stretch of this regular season.
Look for the Red Devils to be my sleeper to at least win their sectional. What happens after that is a toss up but a team that didn’t win a game a year ago havin’ a chance to win their sectional a year later is amazin’. Stop me when I start lyin’!
