Why Dana Evans got robbed of the Indiana Miss Basketball Award! “Numbers and Lies”

"Oh it's real out here! Just so you know!" (Jim Karczewski / Post-Tribune)

When you grow up in Gary, Indiana you’re trained to recognize a hustle gettin’ out of the car down the street. You’re trained to see the loaded dice come out of a boy’z pocket in the middle of the game. You’re trained to understand that it ain’t always what it seems and you’re trained to always look for the exit signs when you walk into a joint. Why? Because there’s always gotta be a Plan B! Big Momma says, “When you’re good at what you do people that think they have the power to hold you down will always try to exert it.”

Well playas…those same duns that think that they hold the power robbed my homegirl of the privilege of bein’ named the 2017 Miss Basketball for the state of Indiana! Dana Evans, who is from The G was clearly the best girls basketball player in the state for the past two years!!! However, the duns in this state with the power did what they always do. They simply acted like the kids from Gary don’t exist.

They awarded the Miss Basketball honor to Homestead’s Karissa McLaughlin, who is a very good basketball player bruh but she wasn’t the best! How can I say that out loud?

Well let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! I can scream that from the top of my lungs because the ONLY McDonald’s All-American in the freakin’ state was Dana Evans!!! ALL-AMERICAN!!!!! She’s led the darn state in scorin’ for the past two seasons puttin’ up 36 points, pullin’ down 7.6 rebounds, throwin’ 6.2 assists and gettin’ 4.8 steals per game.

Don’t tell me that I’m crazy because the facts are the facts bruh! In the famous words of Jay-Z, “Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t!”

Now they can act like she’s not Indiana’s Miss Basketball if they want to playa but everybody with eyes could see that Dana Evans was the best player in the state. It should have been just a matter formality but once again they’ve robbed another kid from The G. Why? Because Gary isn’t important to the rest of the state. As far as these cats down here are concerned Gary is Chicago. They’ve excluded them from any consideration of anything.

Dana was literally up for the Naismith Award given to the best player in the country and she couldn’t even win Miss Basketball in her own state? It’s foolishness! She’s the only person from INDIANA on the national list! Therefore, through simple process of elimination she’s the best player in the state! Wheredeydodatat?

Here’s the hustle gettin’ out of the car down the street. Dana decided to play her college ball at Louisville and Karissa is goin’ to Purdue, a state school. Don’t think for one minute that that didn’t play a factor in who won the freakin’ award because it did. Dana is from The G and in their minds that’s the slums so she isn’t worthy of winnin’ the award. Boyz tend to look down their noses at Gary just so you know.

But let me tell you something playa. Bein’ from The G puts a hunger inside of you that can’t be satisfied. The best thing to ever happen to Dana is not winnin’ that stupid political/socioeconomic based award. Why? Because it’s goin’ to drive her to be even better. So y’all can keep actin’ like folks from Gary ain’t worth two dead flies smashed if you want to but we’re like BeBe’s Kids! We don’t die, we multiply!  That’s why everywhere you look on the big stages of life you’ll run into somebody from Gary.

Dana you keep your head up and keep on workin’ your butt off! What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! We know how great you are! Now it’s time to prove it to the world. Now let me get back to these NBA and NFL streets! It’s playoff and draft time. Oh and by the way babygirl, I cover the WNBA too. So I’ll run into you in about 4 years because your appetite just got stronger. Stop me when I start lyin’!

Make sure to check out the “Real Playa Podcast” about this foolishness too! Boyz wanna try to justify this nonsense!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) The G: noun – Gary, Indiana

3) Wheredeydodatat?: Hood for “Who does that?”

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”

The caption under the photo isn’t real but its real talk!
