The IHSAA is DEAD wrong for not allowin’ Thea Bowman’s students to transfer! “C’mon Bruh!”

I grew up in Gary, Indiana a place that boyz affectionately call “The G!” I played football at THE GARY ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL well before I had aspirations of becomin’ a sports writer. My self-esteem was built through athletics and the person that I am today is a result of bein’ able to compete on the field in Gary.

That’s why I’m so upset about the IHSAA’s decision to keep the student-athletes at Thea Bowman Leadership Academy in Gary from bein’ able to transfer as a result of the school’s recent suspension from state tournaments. They suspended the school for two years of IHSAA tournaments because of a lack of institutional control. They broke all types of rules and it is what it is. However, the kids shouldn’t be held accountable for what some irresponsible adults were doin’.

What did the adults in the basketball program do? They had a boy playin’ in a game that wasn’t even enrolled at the darn school! C’mon bruh! They used a player whose high school eligibility had already expired in several games and they had a dun playin’ in a game who provided false information in a transfer report to the IHSAA. Now again, this was all in the basketball program. They had another cat playin’ that hadn’t even filled out transfer paperwork at all.  So of course the basketball program should have been shut down with no questions asked.

But why were all of the other sports shut down? Because the other coaches failed to comply with state regulations when it comes to safety protocol and trainin’! You know the drill bruh! You’ve got to dot all eyes and cross all T’s in this joint. You’re not brand new to this. Here are the rules…EVERY coach at a member school is required to take two educational courses from the National Federation of State High School Associations. There’s a course on concussions that is MANDATORY with the IHSAA and it’s an Indiana state law. Only two of the coaches at the darn school even took the course. That’s why the whole school was shut down! Do what you’re supposed to do!!! It’s simple bruh!!!

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! None of this foolishness is the kid’s fault. Therefore, they should have a right to transfer to another school to play sports. This is another example of the IHSAA tryin’ to throw our inner city kids away. It’s no different than the foolishness of suspendin’ the entire Indianapolis Ben Davis and Pike girl’s basketball teams when a couple of girls got into a fight durin’ a game last year. They suspended every player on those teams even though they all weren’t guilty of fightin’. However, kids over at Carmel a few years ago could sexually assault their teammates on the bus and only the duns involved were reprimanded. C’mon bruh! When the head coach over at Indianapolis Park Tudor was havin’ sex with students they didn’t hold the athletes responsible for his behavior. Naw playa, they sent that fool to jail and kept it movin’.

However, they want to throw our kids away and let the duns in the suburbs act a darn fool and they still get to participate or transfer when the adults are wrong.

The kids in Gary should have the right to transfer because the very teachers, administrators and coaches involved in that foolishness are free to take off and work somewhere else. It blows my mind that folks can sleep at night knowin’ that they’ve just thrown some kids away for the actions of some irresponsible adults.

What this really is, is a swipe at Gary. Boyz down here in Indy never like to see schools from the crib show up and win anything. I’ve been in Indy for darn near 20 years and when you tell a boy that you’re from Gary you always get the funny looks. I’m cool with Bowman as a school bein’ suspended if they weren’t complyin’ with the rules but the kids shouldn’t be held hostage. Why? Because they have every right to become great like every other kid in America. Stop me when I start lyin’!
