The greatness of the Warren Central basketball program will NOT be invisible! “Black Excellence”

In 1952 Ralph Ellison wrote one of the top 100 novels of the 20th Century entitled “The Invisible Man.” It’s about an African American man that was invisible, not from a physical standpoint, but he became invisible because people refused to see him because of the color of his skin.

Well playas…I will refuse to ignore the greatness of what’s happenin’ over at Warren Central right now with our young black kids. They’ve got two basketball teams that are makin’ history and there are literally people walkin’ around this city and state that refuse to see them in plain sight.

Antwaan Cushingberry

The boys hoop team is maulin’ cats right now ranked No.1 in the state with a 24-0 record and their girls squad is about to play for the Class 4A State Title on Saturday. Where I’m from they call that Black Excellence!!! However, it’s not something that dominates the news cycle because it isn’t negative.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! If our kids were out here sellin’ drugs, gang bangin’ or shopliftin’ it would be all over the news. If they were fightin’ or destroyin’ property over at Castleton Square Mall or somethin’ like that their faces would be plastered all over the television.

However, we’ve got some black kids from the east side that are beatin’ the brakes off of everybody in their path legally and nobody sees them. Their boys are ranked No.1 and the average cat that isn’t followin’ high school hoop couldn’t name a single kid on the team. Why is that?

Why is it that nobody’s talkin’ about my young sistas that came out of nowhere to knock off the favorites, North Central and Pike, to get to the semi-state last week in Jasper? Why is it that they had to travel to Jasper to play a semi-state game in the first place? I already broke that foolishness down last week in the Crazy Hot Joint entitled “Survivin'” that you’ve got to check out.

Shaila Beeler

But why aren’t kids like Shaila Beeler (No.10), Cyndi Dodd (No.50), K’Ja Talley (No.21), Maray Bell (No.34) and the rest of their teammates household names by this week? They’re about to play for the state championship in INDIANA!! This is a basketball state playa and they’re sittin’ on top of the house and boyz around this piece are actin’ like they’re invisible.

Why aren’t we seein’ pieces on the boys No.1 team darn near weekly? Why aren’t they household names too?  Sure, everybody and their baby’s momma knows who David Bell is because he’s one of the most highly recruited football players in the country. He’s probably the most athletic kid I’ve seen in 20 years. However, most people don’t know how crazy he and his teammates are ballin’ right now. But why aren’t cats like Antwaan Cushingberry, Joe Rush, Dean Tate or the lil’/big homie Jakobie Robinson household names around this piece?

Sure, the sports media knows who they all are. However, when a school on the east side of town full of black kids are doin’ EXCELLENT things we should all be applaudin’ them and we should know who they are!!!

As a matter of fact, we should all want to know who they are! Salute to Black Excellence even when most people refuse to see it. Warren Central you are NOT invisible and TheJayGravesReport will make sure that you’re not. Stop me when I start lyin’!

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
