The companies that dropped Brandon Marshall are hypocrites! “Land of Who?”

William Hazlitt, the English writer, once said, “The only vice that cannot be forgiven is hypocrisy. The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy.” Charles Spurgeon, the British Baptist preacher, gave it to us like this, “Sincerity makes the very least person to be of more value than the most talented hypocrite.” Then Tennessee Williams, the playwright, put where the goats could get it when he spit, “The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that’s also a hypocrite!”

Well playas…it’s funny listenin’ to all of these duns that claim to be so patriotic while they’re completely denouncin’ the NFL players that are protestin’ by either sittin’ or kneelin’ durin’ the National Anthem. The hypocrisy is sickenin’ bruh! How can you claim to be patriotic and not understand what the First Amendment of the United States Constitution actually says? On last Thursday Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall kneeled durin’ the National Anthem and has since lost two janky endorsement deals. The Air Academy Federal Credit Union dipped on him shortly after the game on Thursday. Then on Monday CenturyLink, a cable and communications company, terminated their agreement with him.

CenturyLink released a statement that said that they “completely [respects] Brandon Marshall’s personal decision and right to take an action to support something in which he strongly believes.” It goes on to say, “America is anchored in the right of individuals to express their beliefs. While we acknowledge Brandon’s right, we also believe that whatever issues we face, we also occasionally must stand together to show our allegiance to our common bond as a nation. In our view, the national anthem is one of those moments. For this reason, while we wish Brandon the best this season, we are politely terminating our agreement with him.”

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! In other words, these duns essentially said, “If Brandon Marshall is willin’ to protest the wrongful deaths of unarmed black men in America at the hands of police and their ability to do so without repercussion or lost wages then we ain’t messin’ with him.” Because you can’t tell a boy in one sentence that you completely respect him for standin’ up for what he strongly believes in, especially when it’s something that involves justice and equality for Americans. Then tell him in the next sentence we are politely terminatin’ our agreement with you!

That’s called hypocrisy bruh!!! These cats want a boy to be loyal to the National Anthem because it’s a tribute to America. However, that very tribute celebrates the killin’ of slaves durin’ the War of 1812 in the second verse, which boyz so conveniently don’t sing. Oh and by the way, Mr. Patriotic, the dun that wrote the National Anthem, Francis Scott Key was a slave owner himself. So when he wrote words “The land of the free” he wasn’t talkin’ about boyz that looked like Brandon Marshall or Colin Kaepernick.

So again, let’s deal with the real reason why the players are sittin’ and kneelin’ durin’ the National Anthem! They’re upset with the way people of color are and have been treated in this country. It’s called racial injustice! Stop spendin’ so much time on the protest itself and deal with the reason why the duns are protestin’ in the first place. When this happens people are really tellin’ boyz that they don’t care about the issues that are important to them.

What kills me is that Air Academy Federal Credit Union and the duns at CenturyLink actually think that the little chump change they took from Brandon Marshall is goin’ to make a difference in his life. Really bruh! Ask yourself this, how much money was the freakin’ local credit union in Colorado and the darn cable company actually payin’ Brandon Marshall. Whatever they were payin’ him was trick off money for his Monday nights.

In order for this country to progress to a point of racial equality. People will have to start listenin’ to the legitimate issues that people point out as racial injustice. If the police were killin’ unarmed white men at the same rate people would be outraged! We wouldn’t have police unions threatenin’ to boycott NFL and WNBA games because players decided that enough was enough. We wouldn’t see people spewing hate at players for sayin’ publicly that something isn’t right.

All change that has EVER occurred in this country has come as a result of protest and people hatin’ the protest and the orchestrators of the protest. Martin Luther King Jr. at one point in our country’s history was the most hated man in America. Muhammad Ali at one point was also the most hated. People hated the Freedom Riders, the organizers of the Civil Rights Movement, the Voter Registration volunteers in Mississippi and even the people sittin’ at the lunch counters at Woolworth’s  tryin’ to simply eat.

So people hatin’ folks for tryin’ to make this country live up to the true meaning of it Creed is normal bruh. I just hope that it doesn’t take forever for them to come to the light. Stop me when I start lyin’!

  1. I’m so glad you pointed out that Dr. King was once the most hated. I was just trying to explain that very fact to someone. I’m so tired of this revisionist history. After his speech “A Time to Break Silence” he went through it. Tavis Smiley wrote a whole book about it. I’ve been telling people from the beginning, historically Kaepernick is not wrong at all. But deep down very few getting mad at him want to address the meat of what he’s saying so they’ll just keep talking about the flag. Keep up the great work Mr. Graves!
