Cam Newton is fired for his remarks on women but Jourdan Rodrigue remains employed after racists tweets surface.
A couple of days ago Cam Newton made the mistake of discountin’ the knowledge of a female beat writer for his team, the Charlotte Panthers. You know the story I don’t have to repeat that foolishness. I even blasted Cam for his remarks to the young lady for actually doin’ her job. He was dead wrong and should have been criticized for it, which he was.
However, over the past twenty four hours we’ve seen Dannon Yogurt drop ole boy and all of his commercials have been pulled. If that’s how they want to get down that’s completely up to them right? If Cam made a mistake that will somehow cost them bread I completely understand them movin’ on. I would guess, off of the top of my head, that their business is geared more towards women than men right? So Cam offended women. Therefore, he’s not the right guy to promote their product right now. It makes sense to me. I’ve got no problem with them movin’ on.
He’ll learn from it and think the next time. Not that he needs the bread but it’s a teachin’ moment. We’ve all had them before and if you haven’t, keep on livin’.
If we can all agree that it makes sense to move on when a person puts your business in a pickle, for lack of a better word. Then why is the young lady, Jourdan Rodrigue, that’s at the center of this controversy still employed at the Charlotte Observer? Or better yet, how did she get the job in the first place? Since all of this foolishness broke earlier this week boyz have done some diggin’ and found that when she was in college back in 2012 and 2013 she sent out some racists Tweets.
In December 2012, she tweeted: “My dad is being super racist as we pass through Navajo land.” And in August of 2013, she tweeted: “He’s the best. Racist jokes the whole drive home.” Thenin May of 2013, ole girl jumped all the way out of the birthday cake and quoted a Twitter parody account: “The earth moves at 450+ mph that’s 10 times triller than NASCAR Dale Earnhart’s (sic) a b—- n—-”
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! How did she even get a job in the first place? Everybody and their baby’s momma knows that the first thing employers look at is potential employees’ social media accounts. So how did she get through the initial screening’? If bein’ racist in America was actually somethin’ that was frowned upon we wouldn’t be havin’ this discussion now would we?
The Observer Editor, Sherry Chisenhall, actually stood up to defend her reporter sayin’,“The Twitter posts are regrettable and we wish they hadn’t happened. We don’t condone the posts or the messages they convey. We believe Jourdan is deeply sincere in her apology and regret about those tweets.”
By puttin’ that statement out and continuin’ to employ her they’ve told the world that bein’ racist in America isn’t bad for business nor does it make a bit of difference to their readers. So in essence, it’s better to be a racist than a sexist in America accordin’ to the foolishness we’ve just witnessed.
But everybody and their baby’s momma is outraged by Cam’s colleagues for takin’ a knee durin’ the national anthem to protest police brutality, racial and social injustice. Now correct me if I’m wrong. Isn’t one person gettin’ fired for makin’ a sexist statement and another keepin’ their job for makin’ a racist statement unjust? Shouldn’t they BOTH have been fired? Or better yet, shouldn’t the person that publicly made racist remarks not even have been hired in the first place?
I’m not lettin’ Cam off of the hook at all. The way he responded to her question was totally out of line and he’s paid the price for it by losin’ the endorsement deal with Dannon. But for the Charlotte Observer to back an employee that sent out racists tweets not once but on several occasions before they hired her is crazy to me. How did she even get a job and then keep it after the tweets fell out of the closet? Because bein’ racist accordin’ to the Observer isn’t bad for business. I’m just sayin’ and stop me when I start lyin’!
