Finally a white quarterback in the NFL has come to Colin Kaepernick’s defense. Finally!! On Wednesday ESPN The Magazine’s Mina Kimes passed along comments made by Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rogers about the unsigned free agent. Ole boy said that it would be “ignorant” to believe that Kaepernick’s prolonged existence on the free agent market hasn’t been impacted by his decision to kneel durin’ the national anthem. Now granted Rogers isn’t talkin’ about gettin’ on a knee but he’s at least he’s openin’ his mouth in support of him.
Durin’ the interview he said, “I think he should be on a roster right now. I think because of his protests, he’s not. I’m gonna stand because that’s the way I feel about the flag—but I’m also 100 percent supportive of my teammates or any fellow players who are choosing not to. They have a battle for racial equality. That’s what they’re trying to get a conversation started around.”
Then ole boy put it where the goats could get it when he spit, “I think the best way I can say this is: I don’t understand what it’s like to be in that situation. What it is to be pulled over, or profiled, or any number of issues that have happened, that Colin was referencing—or any of my teammates have talked to me about.”
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! This is all black folks want to hear from our white counterparts bruh. We just want to hear them say that they can’t relate but completely understand and are willin’ to listen empathically. It’s offensive when you’re goin’ through foolishness out here and people look at you like you’re makin’ this nonsense up.
Who wants to be racially profiled, pulled over, have a gun drawn on them because they’ve got a burned out taillight and they’re simply on their way to work or home? Who wants to be choked to death for sellin’ loose cigarettes in front of a store? Who wants to be treated any old kind of way for simply bein’ the wrong color? You don’t hear of white folks bein’ killed at traffic stops even when they might be actin’ a fool with the police.
We’ve seen hundreds of incidents caught on camera where some white cat has a gun or is bein’ overly aggressive with law enforcement and they do EVERYTHING in their power to subdue this fool. But a black man is runnin’ away from the officer and is shot in the back eight times with no conviction of wrong doin’ against the police officer. It’s enough to drive you crazy literally.
Ninety percent of the battle is gettin’ the folks that aren’t affected by racial discrimination to be empathic with those that are. Why? Because if those that aren’t affected by it will stand up for those that are, their stupid friends will finally start to listen. As long as only the people complainin’ about the problem look like Colin Kaepernick the problem isn’t goin’ anywhere because there isn’t enough of those people to change the mindset of racism in America.
You do realize that there were white folks marchin’ along side of Dr. King in the Civil Rights Movement don’t you? You do realize that there were white abolitionists in the north helpin’ runaway slaves on the underground railroad don’t you? You do realize that Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson were all in the White House workin’ to help push the agenda for black folks in America even if it was for selfish reasons don’t you? I could go on but why?
My point is that change in America only comes when ALL of us are willin’ to acknowledge that there’s a problem. Not just some of us. So I’m thankful that a quarterback with some influence has finally spoken up and maybe it’ll encourage others to speak up.
It’s crazy to me that duns can spend as much time as they do playin’ on high school, college and professional teams with black players and act like they’re oblivious to what cats go though bein’ black in America. All I can do is shake my head when I think about the amount of people in America that simply turn their backs to injustice because it doesn’t affect them. Stop me when I start lyin’!
