It blows my mind that as much as boyz continue to explain to folks that the reason why Colin Kaepernick initially kneeled or sat durin’ the national anthem was to protest police brutality, racial and social injustice in America and duns out here still don’t get it. Well it’s not that they don’t get it, they don’t care to get it because none of that actually has any affect on them or theirs.
It’s sad that so many people in this country are ONLY concerned about themselves and what makes them comfortable. On Sunday every team in the NFL participated one way or another in the protest which, in my opinion, was a sham because 99.9999 percent of these duns never thought twice about protestin’ until President Trump started talkin’ crazy to boyz on Friday night down in Huntsville.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! If you weren’t one of the few that actually stood up for the protest or should I say kneeled down for it, the President wasn’t talkin’ about you. But that’s neither here nor there.
However, now that everybody and their baby’s momma has dove into the pool butt naked foamin’ at the mouth. I’m trippin’ off of all of the people that actually think that they’re hurtin’ the Pittsburgh Steelers players and Mike Tomlin because they’re crazy enough to burn their own property. Duns are makin’ videos forty goin’ north of themselves takin’ every stitch of Steelers gear they own and burnin’ it.
NEW FLASH BRUH: The players and coaches are under contract and they don’t give a rip that you stand out in your driveway and burn what belongs to you. They’ve got 53 players on that roster and they all will get a pay check whether you come to the game, burn their jerseys or turn off your television or not.
This isn’t about makin’ you feel comfortable. It’s about pushin’ for racial and social change in America. The word protest in and of itself means friction, to disapprove of something, to express dislike. It’s not supposed to make you feel good especially if you’re one of the people that’s extremely comfortable.
It blows my mind when I hear people say that they just want to watch the game without bein’ reminded of politics or that they just want to be comfortable on a Sunday to watch the game. Well playboy…black folks don’t have that option in America because any of us includin’ those very NFL players that you’re upset with are always at risk of gettin’ pulled over after the game for a simple traffic stop and could end up dead for reachin’ for our wallets. So we don’t have the comfort of just turnin’ the racial and social injustice off for the afternoon to watch the game.
Everybody and their baby’s Uncle LeRoy loves Martin Luther King, Jr. today because he’s no longer with us. However, at the height of his notoriety he was known as the “Outside Agitator” because he was protestin’ injustice in an America that wanted things to remain the same. In an America where the status quo wanted to remain comfortable.
There was a time when folks were resistant to black children simply goin’ to school with white children to pursue the same education. Folks were upset that black folks asked for the right to vote in our elections in this country. People were outraged that people of color wanted to simply sit down in the same restaurants, movie theaters and drink out of the same water fountains that white folks did.
That seems like a century ago to most folks bruh. However, all or at least most of this has taken place since I was born 50 years ago. I was a year old with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968.
So to watch folks become outraged that players and coaches of color have again stood up for what is right in America doesn’t surprise me but it does disappoint me. My parents were college educated professionals from the south. My dad was a pharmacist and my mother was a elementary school teacher. They couldn’t go to the predominantly white institutions to get their degrees in the 1950’s so they were forced to attend Texas Southern University an all black school.
Even with the resistance in front of them they were able to succeed but it wasn’t without protest and those challengin’ it every step of the way. So I say continue to fight the good fight and the Lord says, “Be not discouraged, Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. Stop me when I start lyin’!
