No.5 Marian Women’s third quarter run pushes them past St. Francis!

INDIANAPOLIS–  No. 5 Marian Women’s basketball team pushed their winning streak to 10 games after last night’s win over Saint Francis 69-51. The Knights are now 21-2 overall and 10-1 in Crossroads League play.

They started the game slow, not shooting well from the field at 36 percent in the first quarter as they trailed 14-10. In the second quarter the Knights went down by seven at the 9:32 mark which was the largest lead of the night for the Cougars.

Marian eventually turn it around before the break scoring 21 points in the second period led by Joana Soeiro who finished the game with a double-double 16 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. They finished the half shooting 64 percent after the poor shooting in the first. The Knights went into half time with a breath of fresh air and a one point lead 31-30.

Marian continued to be strong on the defensive end the remainder of the game. They caused 11 turnovers by the Cougars all in the second half. They went on a 22-5 run in the third quarter with Saint Francis shooting nine percent from the field, to gain a comfortable lead as Dejah Cyrus was tough to guard adding 17 points and six rebounds.

The Knights went up 21 points with threes from Sarah Corbin and Katie Ernstberger which put the game to rest. Marian finished the game shooting and outstanding 45 percent from the field.
