The night before the nation’s 22nd ranked high school football team, the Ben Davis Giants, took the field for it’s first practice of the 2017 season. One of their senior leaders, defensive back Rondell Allen, was shot multiple times. He’s had six surgeries over the past five days and he’s still not out of the woods yet accordin’ to head coach Mike Kirschner as he spoke to his team at their annual picnic on Saturday just prior to their first scrimmage. So make sure that you’re prayin’ for this young man and his family. As you would imagine it’s not just about football right now at Ben Davis. It’s about teachin’, encouragin’ and motivatin’ young men to be more than just football players.

But on some real talk, it’s always been about that for one of the best high school football programs in the nation!! It’s about life and bein’ the best on and off of the field. Now don’t get it twisted, the Giants are rollin’ into this season with a truckload of talent just waitin’ for a boy to let them loose.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! When you’ve got the type of talent Ben Davis has it’s hard to figure out which weapon to use first!! They’ve got the best athlete in the state and the No.27 ranked athlete in the country in Reese Taylor who just committed to Indiana this past week at quarterback!!! As a junior he completed 66 percent of his passes for a mind blowin’ 2,730 yards and 24 touchdowns. Then ole boy turned around and put up another 961 yards on the ground for an additional 23 touchdowns!! Wheredeydodatat?

Then they’ve got two monsters totin’ the rock comin’ out of the backfield! Seniors Joey Person and Johnny Adams will do work on defenses this season. Person finished his junior campaign with 476 yards and 8 touchdowns as Adams finished with 384 yards and 7 touchdowns.

The wide receiver corp is crazy bruh. I spent Saturday afternoon waitin’ on a boy to drop a pass!! It’s nuts to see how good they actually are. Broc Thompson, Jermaine Hoskins and KeSean Tunstill will give defensive secondaries fits. Do you hear me?

The defense will be led by senior linebackers and Purdue commit Elijah Bell and Sir’Zion Dance. They’ll also be lookin’ for big things from senior defensive end Willie Ervin.

What’s crazy to me is that the program never falls off even when extremely talented cats come and go. They never rebuild at Ben Davis, they just reload bruh.

All I’ve got to say is that I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of the field when these cats roll up. Boyz better boot up when the Giants get off of the bus because it’s gonna be a long night. Mike Kirschner has done an excellent job with this bunch and most importantly he supports all of his kids good or bad. That’s why his program is so good year in and year out. You can’t just love your kids when everything is goin’ well. When you sign up to coach you have to understand that it’s a 24 hour job to love all of your kids. Salute to Coach Kirschner for puttin’ in the extra work. Stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Ole boy: noun – it whoever I’m talkin’ about.

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
