Lighthouse’s Kenya Stines showed boyz what a REAL leader looks like on Saturday! “Like a G”

On December 5th Gary’s Lighthouse College Prep Academy in “The G” loss their head coach Marvin Rea in a car accident on I-65 near Lafayette. He was more than just a coach like these cats in the suburbs are. He was a father and step father to his players. He was the ride to and from practice, the male influence in many of their lives that keeps them out of the streets. He was pocket change for a boy, shoes, clothes, baby formula for their kids etc. He was everything to many of his players because that’s just how it goes in the hood playboy.

Coaches don’t sign up to just be the coach. They sign up to make a difference in the community and to handle all of the baggage that comes with EVERY player on his roster. Well playas…when the good Lord called Marvin Rea home he assigned another good brother the job. Kenya Stines, his right hand man, has taken over the duties of fillin’ that void for these kids.

I hooked up with the new head coach on Saturday before their game against Warren Central in Indy. He told me that it’s been a huge undertakin’ to all of a sudden be named the head coach because it was unexpected and rightfully so. Now all of the decisions for this team fall on his shoulders good or bad. That’s a lot to absorb.

Well playas…he had two of his best players miss curfew on Friday night and the brand new head coach that had just gotten blasted on Friday night over in Marion 89-50 by Lawrence Central had a decision to make. Play these boyz or not? However, he didn’t hesitate to make the right one. Both players would be benched and they would do the best they could without them.

Warren Central jumped all over them from the word go and beat them 95-46. But what I saw on that sideline was nothin’ short of remarkable. I saw a brand new head coach grow up snd become a leader of men. It was clear that Lighthouse was out matched. They had no answer for Warren.

Coach Stines walked that sideline and took it like a G. He continued to encourage his players as they grew frustrated with turnovers and calls from the officials. He knew that he had two studs that could help turn off the faucet but he stuck to his guns. He didn’t want to be tempted to play them so he refused to dress them.

As the deficit grew larger he continued to talk to his players, put his arms around them and touch them on the head as they came to the bench. He was bein’ more than a coach on Saturday bruh. He was bein’ their leader. Sure, they’re goin’ to take some lumps durin’ this transition but with a leader like Kenya Stines they’ll become a good team and even better men. Salute to Lighthouse for makin’ him the new head coach. They couldn’t have put a better person in that role. Sop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Ole boy: noun – the person that I’m currently talkin’ about.

3) The G: noun – Gary, Indiana

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”

The caption under the photo isn’t real but its real talk!

  1. Wow now how’s hostile…just making comments…maybe it shouldn’t have a comment space?

    • Bruh…you’ve got options playboy! This is TheJayGravesReport not the “Regular Joe blow who watched the game” website. So the same fingers you used to get on this joint. You can always use them to find another site. I appreciate you though.

  2. No hostility just stating facts the team is trash…and two players wouldn’t have changed the outcome. I wasnt talking about “the G”…I was talking about the he took it like a G comment…he took it like a Gary …yeah right.

  3. His two players were benched maybe because they were a part of the 6 technicals assessed to the team in there game against Lawrence Central @ Marion.
They may have missed curfew but one player was ejected to go with 4 other technicals.

    • Bruh…I’m not speculating I spoke with the head coach before the game. I’ve known him for 29 years. Let me do this.

  4. This is the weakest story ever….I saw the trash on the floor nothing against the coach but they need to scrap the program and start over…They are trash. What I saw was horrible “basketball” if that’s what you want to call it. They did bad in all aspects of the game and two players would not have made any difference. Stop making feel good stories about this bum team be real. Oh yea the G under the pic is for gangsta we ain’t all slow bro.

    • Why so hostile my friend? The G is for Gary and it’s always been my friend. You wouldn’t know that because you aren’t from there. Thanks for reading anyway.
