Big Momma used to always say, “You find out who people are durin’ our darkest times! Just sit in the cut and watch the reactions of people when it gets thick.” Well playboy…it’s as thick as it’s ever been since probably I was born bruh! I was a year old when the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed in Memphis.
Ever since the leadership in this country has transitioned from common sense diplomacy to reckless abandonment all hell has broken loose. Duns aren’t afraid to say whatever they want because it’s become acceptable and commonplace to be disrespectful.
In an interview with Jim Gray on Westwood One’s Monday Night Football Pregame Show ole dull Mike Ditka jumped clean out of the birthday cake butt naked foamin’ at the mouth and said this,
“All of a sudden, it’s become a big deal now, about oppression. There has been no oppression in the last 100 years that I know of. Now maybe I’m not watching it as carefully as other people. I think the opportunity is there for everybody. … If you want to work, if you want to try, if you want to put effort into yourself, I think you can accomplish anything.”
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Can we have a real conversation bruh? Too many of my white brothers and sisters believe that once boyz were emancipated in 1865 that everybody sang kumbaya and kept it movin’ like nothin’ ever happened. Yes I know that the Emancipation Proclamation was actually signed on January 1, 1963 but boyz weren’t actually freed until June 19, 1965 because there was some foolishness with the transfer of information to the duns actually bein’ freed. Catch that one later playboy.
Mike Ditka is a prime example of a boy that doesn’t have to pay attention to it because racism doesn’t have any affect on him or duns that look like him. He says, “Now maybe I’m not watching it as carefully as other people.”
To even have the luxury of “NOT” havin’ to pay attention to it says it all bruh. Let’s just not act like 244 years of slavery in this country didn’t even happen right? Then let’s act like durin’ that same 244 years families weren’t destroyed by the buyin’ and sellin’ of mothers, fathers and children and that there wasn’t an ounce of emotional trauma involved. Let’s also act like slave masters weren’t rapin’ their slaves to produce even more slaves and that there was no emotional trauma involved in that foolishness either. Not to mention the fact that these people weren’t allowed to learn how to read or write.
So let’s just say that none of that happened durin’ the institution of slavery and a boy just opened the gate and said, “Today you’re free on this June 19th.” They owned no property and had nowhere to go. So many of them were suckered into stayin’ and workin’ for free as they became share croppers that never got a share of the land that they cultivated for the dun that actually owned it.
They were jailed for simply bein’ black because anybody white could have them arrested. Thus, the term mass incarceration that’s still goin’ on today.
But for the purpose of this discussion let’s fast forward to just 100 years ago like life started for them in 1917. Uhhhh, there were domestic terrorists known as the Ku Klux Klan runnin’ around the country lynchin’, tarin’ and featherin’ black folks in the thousands. Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma was bombed by ground and air attack killin’ more than 300 people and destroyin’ more than 35 blocks in the Greenwood neighborhood, the wealthiest black neighborhood in the country at the time. But ole Mike says that there has been no oppression.
There were laws in place that made it legal to discriminate. It wasn’t until 1954 when Brown vs. Board of the Education of Tapeka, Kansas ruled that schools should be desegregated and folks still protested to keep them segregated all over this country for years to come.
Let’s really put it where the goats can get it though. The Votin’ Rights act wasn’t signed until 1964 and boyz still played games with folks to keep them from votin’! The Fair Housing Act wasn’t signed until 1968 that specifically prohibited folks from discriminatin’ on the basis of race, religion, ethnic background or national origin, sex, familial status.
However, they still weren’t regulated because there was mortgage loan discrimination. Bruh…everybody that grew up in the ghetto wasn’t poor. I’m one of those people. Both my mother and father were college educated at Texas Southern University in the mid 1950’s. They were denied entrance into the predominately white institutions like the University of Texas at the time.
I grew up in Gary, Indiana which was 99.9999 percent black because that’s the only place other than East Chicago and Hammond, IN. that black folks could live in northwest Indiana. But Mike Ditka wants to tell boyz that oppression doesn’t exist.
Let’s get back to the topic of mass incarceration and drug sentencin’ laws for a second playa. Durin’ the 1980’s and 1990’s the system was designed to give longer prison sentences to black folks for committin’ the same crimes as their white counter parts.
Oh I’m just talkin’? Let’s take a look at it. A person charged with 1 gram of crack cocaine is given the same sentence as a person caught with 18 grams of powder cocaine. Thus, the 18:1 rule. Now who’s more likely, accordin’ to the statistics, to use crack cocaine vs. powder cocaine? Well playa, I’m glad you asked. Crack users are more likely to be black, low-income and less educated. Now that’s the law now bruh! Before 2010 it was 100:1!!! But accordin’ to Mike Ditka there has been no oppression.
I guess if you’re Mike Ditka you don’t have to pay attention to all of these unarmed black folks bein’ shot to death by police officers. You don’t have to pay attention to the racists rants all over television and radio. You don’t have to look at a bunch of White Supremacists runnin’ through the streets of Charlottesville with torches, beatin’ and killin’ folks in the name of perservin’ their status in America.
You don’t have to listen to fans callin’ players the N-word as they go on and off of the field durin’ a 2017 Monday Night Football game just last week and the list goes on. But accordin’ to Mike Ditka oppression doesn’t exist in America for black folks.
Well if it doesn’t exist, how would you or anyone that feels the same way you do like to have traded places with black folks in America over the last 100 years? I thought so. Stop me when I start lyin’!
