How No.1 Ben Davis is bein’ mistreated in this dull Indiana Playoff Structure! “Unacceptable”

Oh, we'll play you anywhere, anytime playboy! Photo: TheJayGravesReport

In all of my days on this earth I’ve never seen a tournament not seeded until I started coverin’ Indiana high school football. Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! This is the biggest piece of foolishness I’ve ever seen. I sent my usual emails to the athletic departments this week to request field passes to cover respective games. Quite naturally I sent an email over to Ben Davis which has the No.1 team in the state that’s currently 11-0 and also ranked No.6 in the COUNTRY! That’s these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and they fired a reply back sayin’, “The game is at Fishers.”

WHAT!!!??? The best team in the state is playin’ in the regionals on the road!!? Not only that, this will be their second game on the road durin’ the three weeks since the playoffs started. And if No.6 Center Grove should happen to beat No.3 Avon in their regional this week BD will have to travel to Center Grove next week to play in the semi-state game. Wheredeydodatat?

ONLY IN INDIANA bruh!!! Foolishness!!!

I just wrote the crazy Hot Joint earlier this week entitled “What!!?” talkin’ about how the “Powers That Be” are tryin’ to hustle the city schools out of the playoffs early so that the suburban schools can get to the Ship. Anybody with half of a brain that can see what’s goin’ on bruh.

Ben Davis is on the far west side of town and they were sent to the far east side to play in the sectional with then No.4 Lawrence Central and No.2 Warren Central when they should have been in the west side sectional with Brownsburg and Avon. So Ben Davis had to play No.4 and No.2 just to get out of the sectional.

Now that they’ve gotten out they’ve got to travel to some duns that aren’t even ranked to play in the regional game. Wheredeydodatat again?

What’s the point of playin’ the regular season if the best team in the state still has to play road games to get to the Ship? We may as well have started the playoffs in August and been done with it. This is stupid!!

The best teams should have home field advantage throughout the playoffs because they’ve earned it. The highest ranked teams shouldn’t be playin’ each other to start the playoffs either. Duns that had horrible seasons are gettin’ a pass and cats that had great seasons have no advantage. What sense does that make?

Five out of the Top 10 teams in the state were from the same conference, The M.I.C.. It’s not fair that they all have to play each other to get out of the sectionals and regionals when less talented teams can skate right in without havin’ to play teams of that same caliber. That’s NUTS!!!

There’s not a person with good sense that can explain to me or anybody over at Ben Davis why they are travelin’ to Fishers to play on Friday. Stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Ship: noun – championship

3) Wheredeydodatat?: Hood for “Who does that?”

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”

The caption under the photo isn’t real but its real talk!

  1. my grandson and I want to thank you for such a fun season of reports, will follow you forever. see you next season.

  2. Nothing New they did the same thing in 1999-2000 season Arlington had a better record than Ben Davis …But all of sudden the game was played at Ben Davis but its all about money

    • Ben Davis was undeafeted in 1999-2000 15-0 . Arlington did not have a better record. It was a
great game nonetheless….Still have the film!

  3. IHSAA has to change again to modernize with the rest of the Nation. Just like they changed the one class basketball system in the late 90’s. All though I disagreed with that decision.

  4. IHSAA sports is backwards on so many levels in all sports. Have you ever wondered why the top teams accross the country can travel accross the country but you never see a top ranked team in Indiana traveling accross the Nation? If they do play somebody out of state, that team travels to Indiana 80% of the time. There have been some small exceptions.

  5. The “powers At Hand” are ALL from where?? *Note: Go to the IHSAA Executive Staff page and tell me the move “GET OUT” Doesn’t immediately pop into your head!! Just keepin it all the way 100 Jay…
What they’ve done with our playoff structure is the same mindset that wants to pass out participation trophies!
It’s no longer about the best competing to earn that title… now it’s “let’s make it “FAIR” so everyone has an equal opportunity to get a trophy”.
