Glenn Robinson III holdin’ it down for G.I. in the Dunk Contest! “Reppin’ The G!”

"We up in here bruh!!"

Boyz from all over the world from every province, country, state or hood loves to rep where they’re from. A boy will tell you in a minute where he’s from and act like it’s the hottest place on earth. Well playas…there’s one place in particular that boyz in the state of Indiana will make you recognize right off of the rip and that’s “The G!!!”

On Saturday night Glenn Robinson III will rep it in the Verizon Slam Dunk Contest as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend. Now Glen didn’t grow up in “The G” but he was born there. He’s got that G blood and any cat runnin’ around here affiliated like that is always family.

Now I wasn’t born in “The G” I’m a native Texan born in Lubbock. However, I moved to Gary when I was 4 years old. I started kindergarten in Gary so I’m from G.I. Born in Texas but bread in “The G!”

So when they introduce the lil’ homie durin’ the startin’ line ups at Pacers games they don’t say “Glenn Robinson III from Michigan” like they typically do in the NBA. Tellin’ boyz where a player played either his college or high school ball. They don’t say “Glenn Robinson III from Scherellville, Indiana” where he grew up! Naw playa, ole boy makes sure that they say Glenn Robinson III from Gary, Indiana! Why? Because it’s the pride of bein’ from a place that boyz continue to doubt and have a tendency to look down their noses at! That’s why?

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Boyz have been doubtin’ “The G” for years and we just keep producin’ greatness!! Cats want to act like we aren’t out here but we keep showin’ up.

All everybody and their baby’s momma knows is The Jackson 5 and Janet but those were just the biggest playas we pushed onto the table bruh. We’ve got an entire deck of boyz reppin’ The G. There was the singin’ group called the Spaniels (Good night Sweetheart), Deniece Williams and then there was the lil’ homie Jesse Powell hurtin’ ‘um. Don’t sleep on the first black football player to be drafted into the NFL in 1946, George Taliaferro! Then there was Fred “The Hammer” Williamson who retired from football and destroyed the game with the “Blaxploitation” movies with Jim Brown and Pam Grier. Dick Burnett won an NBA Championship with the Knicks. I know you’ve heard of Joe “Moose” Gates of the Chicago White Sox. Tom Harmon was the first player to win a Heisman Trophy at Michigan. C’mon bruh!

I know you aren’t gonna act like you didn’t know that Glenn’s daddy is the Big Dog and I’m quite sure Stephen A. Smith’s got nothin’ else to say about my homeboy either.

We’re even doin’ work in WWE!!! Queen Sharmell is holdin’ us down and she’s the former Miss Black America too! Her brother Ronald S. Sullivan, my valedictorian of Class of 1985, is a Law professor at the Harvard Law School and he “has fought to get more incarcerated people out of prison – over 6,000 – than arguably anyone in American history.” The dun is a global leader in combattin’ wrongful convictions and in advocatin’ for criminal justice reform. Ole boy has testified before Congress on multiple occasions for those reasons! And he runs with President Obama!!!  “The G bruh!”

Everybody and their uncle’s mistress watched the New Edition story and didn’t even know that Buddy Lewis, the dun that introduced Bobby Brown at the beginnin’ of the movie, was from “The G!

Now don’t get it twisted, Buddy has been in Hollywood for decades writin’ for Jamie Foxx, D.L. Hughley and he’s been a script writer for Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. This is “The G” bruh!!

Everybody was lovin’ the hair styles, the old school shags, the high top fades and even the Bobby Brown Gumby joint in the New Edition story right? Well the dun doin’ all of the hair was Gary’s own Conrad Hilton! We’re out here bruh and we aren’t goin’ anywhere. We’re like Bebe’s kids. We don’t die we multiply. I could name all kinds of boyz that came on in these streets of Gary that are puttin’ in work despite the odds but we’d be here all day. You get my point.

So when Lil’ Glenn steps on the floor in New Orleans for the Dunk Contest just understand, win or lose, that “The G” is in the buildin’! And we reppin’ hard! Y’all already know that I’m in these NBA streets puttin’ in work. Stop me when I start lyin’!
