As a parent you tell your kids to do the right things, be respectful, work extremely hard and you’ll become successful one day. Dedicate yourself to bein’ the best you can be and whatever it is you decide to do, and great things will come your way. Well playas… it’s not always that easy.
Dijon Anderson was an outstanding young man with his future at his finger tips! He was a senior at Warren Central High School that was about to graduate and go off to college on a full scholarship to play football and some dun shot and killed him over a pair of sneakers. It’s insane that our children, especially our young Kings, keep dyin’ in these streets for no reason.
It’s especially heart breakin’ when it’s a leader like Dijon!! I know that the fact that he was an outstandin’ football player shouldn’t matter in a case of death because if he weren’t a football player he was still somebody’s child!! I bring up his greatness in football for one reason. Football was the vehicle that allowed those that didn’t know him to see his dedication to bein’ great.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! This kid played all over the field bruh! He was a beast at corner with ball skills through the roof. He returned both kickoffs and punts like a bat out of hell. He played wide receiver and blocked like an offensive tackle down the field. What does all of that mean? It’s means that the kid was special!
No one becomes that good at doin’ all of those things without bein’ disciplined, a good listener, a great learner and leader. Bruh…we didn’t just lose a football player! We lost a great leader that our community so desperately needs! We don’t get kids that special everyday.
Dijon was on his way to Southern Illinois University to continue his quest to make it to the NFL. But even if he hadn’t made it to the league he showed all of the promise of becomin’ a great leader. It saddens me to know that there are people runnin’ around here willin’ to take a person’s life on GP. It’s crazy.
However, those of us that are believers understand that God doesn’t make any mistakes and it was in his will for this young man to grace us with his presence for only a short period of time. I hope that the kids that knew him and those that looked up to him will follow his example of excellence and become more than they ever dreamed of becomin”! Rest in Peace lil’ homie and we’ll see you on the other side.
