Last month I stood up on the tables to let boyz know that “The G” is always in the buildin’! No matter where you go or what you’re doin’ a dun from Gary, Indiana is holdin’ it down.! Durin’ the NBA All-Star Weekend the lil’/big homie Glenn Robinson III, whom I cover with the Indiana Pacers, was born in Gary, Indiana. Ole boy won the Verizon Slam Dunk Contest. I’m usually in these NBA streets but today I’ve got to pull over and give major props to the next big thing comin’ out of Gary, Miss Dana Evans!!!

I’ve been so busy that I haven’t given her the love that she deserves for holdin’ The G up like a champ!!! The West Side High School senior made us all proud by becomin’ the latest McDonald’s American to call G.I. home!!! Boyz can look down their noses at this place called Gary, Indiana if they want to but we just keep breakin’ down the doors and climbin’ through the windows that folks don’t want us to enter.

When you grow up in The G it’s something innate in you that allows you to beat the odds.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! West Side High doesn’t have half of the athletic facilities or budgets that these big schools in Indianapolis have but the grind and struggle of The G allowed Dana Evans become the best player in the state if not in the country.

She led the state in scorin’ for the second year in a row puttin’ up 36 points, pullin’ down 7.6 rebounds, throwin’ 6.2 assists and gettin’ 4.8 steals per game. Now they can act like she’s not Miss Basketball if they want to playa but everybody with eyes can see that she is. So it’s just a matter formality on April 27 when they actually announce or it’s gonna be a problem. This young lady is literally up for the Naismith Award given to the best player in the country. So just go ahead and slide that Miss Basketball trophy up to The G and we’ll call it lovely.

Say it with me, “G.I. is in the buildin’ playboy!!!”

All everybody and their baby’s momma can name is The Jackson 5 and Janet from Gary. However, those were just the biggest face cards that we pushed into the middle of the table. We’ve got an entire deck of card reppin’ The G. There was the singin’ group called the Spaniels (Good night Sweetheart), Deniece Williams and then there was the lil’ homie Jesse Powell hurtin’ ‘um in the ’90’s. Don’t sleep on the first black football player to be drafted into the NFL in 1946, George Taliaferro! Then there was Fred “The Hammer” Williamson who retired from football and destroyed the game with the “Blaxploitation” movies with Jim Brown and Pam Grier. Dick Burnett won an NBA Championship with the Knicks back in the early ’70’s. I know you’ve heard of Joe “Moose” Gates of the Chicago White Sox. Tom Harmon was the first player to win a Heisman Trophy at Michigan. C’mon bruh!

I know your not gonna act like you didn’t know that the Big Dog, Glenn Robinson, GRIII’s daddy wasn’t from the crib?

We’re even doin’ work in the WWE!!! Queen Sharmell is holdin’ us down and she’s the former Miss Black America too! Her brother Ronald S. Sullivan, my valedictorian of Class of 1985 at the Velt, is a Law professor at the Harvard Law School and he “has fought to get more incarcerated people out of prison – over 6,000 – than arguably anyone in American history.” The dun is a global leader in combattin’ wrongful convictions and in advocatin’ for criminal justice reform. Ole boy has testified before Congress on multiple occasions for those reasons! And he runs with President Obama!!!  I’m talkin’ about cats that came from these G.I. streets!

I know y’all watched the New Edition Story on BET back in February right? Well…the dun that was responsible for the all of the hair styles, the old school shags, the high top fades and even the Bobby Brown Gumby joint was from The G and his name is Conrad Hilton?

The cat that introduced Bobby Brown at the beginnin’ of the movie went to West Side bruh and his name is Buddy Lewis. Now don’t get it twisted, Buddy has been in Hollywood for decades writin’ for Jamie Foxx, D.L. Hughley and he’s been a script writer for Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.  I’m headed to see the play “Motown” this weekend and just found out that the dun playin’ Berry Gordy is Chester Gregory from the crib. This is “The G” bruh!!

We’re out here bruh and now we’ve just added another superstar to the list of greats from the place that we so affectionately The G! DANA EVANS!!! We’re ridin’ with you all the way to Louisville! Do yo thang baby girl and please understand that you’ll always be reppin’ The G. Now let me get back to these NBA streets. Stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) The G: noun – Gary, Indiana

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”

The caption under the photo is real talk!
